The client
AutomaticDoors.AI is a leading independent provider of automatic door systems in the UK. It supplies and supports more than 200 automatic door products from several manufacturers, serving installers, facilities managers, councils, healthcare providers and commercial clients nationwide.
With a growing engineering workforce, the business needed a better way to get accurate technical knowledge to engineers in the field, without piling more pressure on its technical support team.
The challenge
Supporting so many operators, control units, accessories and safety devices means engineers constantly need:
- Installation instructions
- Wiring diagrams and terminal layouts
- Programming and commissioning steps
- Fault codes and troubleshooting procedures
Engineers relied on printed manuals, PDFs, internal documents and phone calls to technical support. As the business grew, that meant slower fixes on site, a heavy load on senior staff, slow knowledge transfer to newer engineers and inconsistency across manufacturers and product generations.
What we built
We designed and deployed an AI technical support agent built around AutomaticDoors.AI's products and the way its engineers work. Engineers get:
- A simple interface on web and mobile
- Text and voice interaction for hands-free use on site
- Product and model identification, so answers match the exact unit
- Step-by-step guidance for installation, wiring, set-up and fault finding
- Cloud hosting that grows as products and users are added
The agent acts as a first-line technical assistant. It supports engineers directly and hands harder problems to the existing technical team.
Training it on real knowledge
The agent was trained on manufacturer manuals and technical documentation, historical support tickets and engineer questions, and the company's own installation standards. That kept answers practical and in line with how engineers actually work. Engineers picked it up without formal training.
Results
- 40% fewer incoming technical support calls, freeing senior engineers for complex issues
- Faster fault resolution on site, with less engineer downtime
- More consistent installations and diagnostics
- Quicker knowledge transfer to new and less experienced engineers
- Less reliance on printed manuals and scattered documents
The same foundation, more of the business.
Once a business has an AI agent that knows its products and processes, the same foundation can take on other work. For AutomaticDoors.AI, that opens up:
- A digital receptionist handling common enquiries and routing calls
- Internal knowledge support so staff can ask about policies, procedures and standards
- AI-assisted HR support for routine onboarding, training and compliance questions
- Central knowledge management so updates reach everyone at once
This is the pattern we now apply to businesses of every kind: start with the job that costs the most time, then build on it.
